H.O.O.V.E.S. Healing Our Veterans

ABOUT THE FILM

Directed By: Josh Nagel

H.O.O.V.E.S. (Healing Our Veterans) is a documentary film that focuses on the experiences of U.S. military veterans participating in equine-assisted therapy programs. The film shows how working closely with horses can help veterans process trauma related to their service, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Through hands-on interaction with the animals, participants learn skills such as trust, emotional regulation, and communication. The documentary highlights how horses often respond to human emotion in ways that encourage self-awareness and personal growth. Overall, the film presents equine therapy as a powerful alternative or complement to traditional mental health treatment for veterans seeking healing and connection.

Dance Of The Wild

ABOUT THE FILM

Directed By: Chance Foreman

“Dance Of The Wild” is a poetic journey into humanity’s timeless bond and fascination with the wild horse — a connection that mirrors our relationship to nature, spirit, and the deeper layers of the soul. Told through the lived wisdom of nine remarkable horsewomen, the film weaves sweeping landscapes, intimate stories, and teachings rooted in natural law to reveal why wild horses are more than just symbols of American heritage — they are sentient, mystical beings whose presence is vital to our survival and evolution. As modern pressures threaten both the Earth and all living beings, “Dance Of The Wild” invites viewers on a journey of remembrance: a return to heart, to land, and to the ancient magic shared between human and horse. Ultimately, the film poses a profound question: What if this sacred relationship holds the key to our collective healing and spiritual evolution?

Mustang Of The Caracas Mesa

ABOUT THE FILM

Directed By: Laura Harper

More than three years ago, Laura Harper began developing a film script inspired by her once-wild mustang, Rambo. As she researched his background, she discovered his story was deeply tied to the history of New Mexico, the evolution of the horse, and her own life in San Juan County. Her investigation revealed that the horses brought by the Conquistadors over five hundred years ago carried an ancient Iberian bloodline that still exists in today’s mustangs. A 2013 genetic study by Dr. E. Gus Cothran confirmed that this Old-World lineage is present in the Jicarilla mustangs of Northern New Mexico, including Rambo. Through this lineage, the film uncovers a broader history of the region’s wild horses and the people connected to them, brought together in “RAMBO of the Carracas Mesa: A History of the Jicarilla Mustangs and Mustangers.”

Throw Away Horses

ABOUT THE FILM

Directed By: Theresa Demarest

Through interviews, photos, and the use of both archival and new footage filmed by and/or obtained by Joshua Records, LLC, the filmmaker has divided the film into 4 to 5 sections portraying the multifaceted and sometimes tragic lives of the modern day horse. To tell the story and engage the audience in this critically needed feature film, the filmmaker explored modern day horse life from private ownership to commercial use. The filmmaker follows what happens to individual horses and the impact it has on the people in their lives. This film has a special focus on rescue operations, delving into both the journey of the horses and the people who run these organizations.

ABOUT THE FILM

Directed By: Julie Karp

America’s Wild Horse Crisis by Julie Karp is a documentary that explores the ongoing challenges facing wild horse populations in the United States, particularly the conflicts surrounding federal land management and roundups. The film highlights the tension between conservation efforts, government policies, and competing land use interests such as livestock grazing. Through interviews with advocates, experts, and those directly involved in wild horse management, it presents a range of perspectives on the issue. It also examines the broader question of how wild horses fit into modern Western ecosystems and American cultural identity. Ultimately, the film aims to raise awareness and encourage dialogue about more humane and sustainable solutions.

Wild Horses at the Door

ABOUT THE FILM

Directed By: Carrie Lederer

This film follows the story of Coloradoan John Wayne Smith, a man who spent eight years homeless while working through recovery before choosing to resettle off-grid on a remote high desert mesa. There, he finds himself living among wild horses, forming an unexpected connection after nursing an injured mare and helping her deliver a foal. This experience becomes the beginning of a deeply personal healing journey as he gradually becomes immersed in their world. Over time, his isolated life in the desert leads him to reflect on broader challenges facing the landscape, especially resource scarcity. As conditions shift, he realizes that the same pressures he once experienced while unhoused are now threatening the wild mustangs he has grown to love and protect.
