This will be a Photography and Art Workshop at this amazing 22,500-acre wild horse sanctuary in Craig, Colorado, the last week of June 2024. Space is limited.

About the event

The art emphasis will be Plein Air Painting in conjunction with Reference Photography led by fine artists Karen McLain and Meredith Hudes-Lowder, respectively.

Each day will bring new adventures in plein air art at the Wild Horse Refuge. There will be opportunities to encounter completely new subjects to add to the workshop's traditional core focus of wild horses. All art mediums are welcome; all skill levels are welcome.

Some topics include:

• Equine Anatomy & Movement

• Genetics of coat colour

• Equine Ethology

• Gesture Sketching

• Painting Composition

• Setting up your mobile palette

• Plein Air outdoor gear review

• Intro to Photoshop/postproduction

... and so many other topics, there are no limitations to what you can learn. We will also have a special guest, Cindy Wright of the Wild Horse Warriors for Sand Wash Basin, in attendance.

Tickets

  • Wild Mustang Walkabout

    Registration for the workshop is $750, and participants must commit to all three days. Fees include all instruction sessions, use of classroom space, transportation around the Wild Horse Refuge, drinks, and snacks. Lodging and meals are not included in the registration fee. Lodging options and/or hotel accommodations will be provided after registration.
